When we just can't be bothered
Translated from Croatian.
We've all had a day when we simply have no energy, when nothing goes the way we planned and we feel as if all our plans and ambitions have vanished into the fog. In those moments it can be hard to recognise that it isn't the end of the world, just one of those days we all have now and then.
1. Accept that it's normal
The first step in those moments is to accept that such days are completely normal. We're not robots, and it's impossible to be productive or motivated every day. Sometimes the best thing is simply to stop, take a break and allow ourselves to feel whatever we feel.
2. When everything starts slipping out of your hands from the morning
Sometimes everything goes downhill from the very start of the day. Maybe the workout doesn't go well, we slept badly, didn't eat properly, or even receive a faulty delivery that annoys us even more. In those moments it's easy to start feeling that nothing is going in the right direction, and worse, we may start comparing ourselves with days when everything was “perfect”. The kilos aren't coming off, the mood is low and everything feels too hard.
3. No need for perfection
Although society often imposes high standards of productivity and achievement, it's important to understand that not every day is the same. When everything “collapses” in a single day, it may be best to remind ourselves that perfectionism isn't realistic. Sometimes it's fine not to be on top of all our goals – physical, emotional and mental. Even the days when we don't seem productive can matter – to recover, reset and prepare for a better tomorrow.
4. Be gentle with yourself
When we feel tired or listless, we often turn on ourselves with criticism, which drains us even more. Instead, let's try to be gentle with ourselves. Think: what would I do if I had a friend who felt like this? You would probably offer her understanding and support, not even more pressure. Let that be your guide for yourself too.
5. Small things bring big relief
When you feel you can't achieve anything, try turning to small things that bring you peace and contentment. Maybe that's enjoying a cup of coffee, a walk in the park or just a few minutes of meditation. Small, everyday things can often bring a sense of accomplishment and calm.
6. Asking for support
There's nothing wrong with asking for support when we need it. Sometimes just talking to a friend, a partner or a family member is enough to make us feel better. Together we can share experiences and find solutions that make current challenges easier.
7. Think about the reasons
Sometimes, when we can't be bothered with anything, there's a deeper reason behind it – tiredness, stress, insecurity, or simply too much on our minds. If the kilos aren't coming off, if we haven't managed to set up healthy routines, and for days we haven't finished what we set out to do, we may be exhausted and overloaded. Maybe it's time to stop, assess ourselves without self-criticism and try to understand what is really holding us back.
Conclusion
Even though the moments when we can't be bothered with anything can shake us, it's important to remember that they are only temporary. With understanding, gentleness towards ourselves and support from others, we can get through such days more easily. You don't have to be perfect – just try to be kind to yourself, and that's already a big step towards recovery and renewed motivation.
